Moving from WCMS 2 to WCMS 3
The Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS) is moving from WCMS 2, built using Drupal 7, to WCMS 3, built using Drupal 8. This move, necessitated by the fact that Drupal 7 will be reaching end-of-life in November 2021, is not a straightforward one.
Drupal 8 has been completely rewritten, a change that will require WCMS 3 to be built, versus merely upgraded to.
The main objective of this project is to build a version of the WCMS that, as much as possible, replicates all existing presentation and end-user functionality of WCMS 2, using Drupal 8 at the core. Please note, this project excludes UWaterloo Scholar websites.
Start to consider the resources that may be required for site migrations.
How many websites are you responsible for? How large are they?
Do you have the time to complete beta testing? Will you rebuild a current site that could move to production? (beta testing details TBD)
Do you have the capacity to complete the migration work yourself, or will you need help?
Is there a smaller website you can migrate first while you learn how to use the new system?
Are there known due dates, commitments, or other work that could conflict with beta testing and/or site migration dates?
