Contacts are used to provide information on University of Waterloo faculty and staff. Contacts appear in Contacts under the About section of your website. Contacts will appear in random order unless sorted. Instructions on how to create group contacts can be found on the Web Resources site.

There are two ways to create a contact, using a user's WatIAM ID or manually.

Create a Contact (WatIAM ID)

  1. From the administration bar, select Workbench, then select My Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Content Types panel and select the Add button next to Contact
  3. Enter the 8-character WatIAM userid of the contact you are creating. Press the enter key on your keyboard. Information from WatIAM will automatically populate the information fields. The Affiliation field will automatically default to University of Waterloo.

  4. Insert an optional Listing page image and/or Image (Portrait) by selecting Add media. The Listing page image will appear on the Contacts listing page and the Image (Portrait) will appear on the page of the Contact. There are two options on how to insert these images.

    • Reference existing: Select an image that has already been uploaded to your site from the existing file list. You can search for the name of the image by typing in the Name field and then selecting Apply filters. Select the desired image and select Insert selected.existing
    • Add file: Select Choose file to upload a file from your computer. Remember to make sure that you are not re-uploading an existing image. Fill in the Name and Alternative text for the image. Select Insert selected.                                                                    Add file 
  5. Enter optional Group(s) that this contact belongs to.
  6. Enter the Title, position, or description.
  7. A Link to Profile can be added if a person profile has been created for the user. In the Link to profile URL field, begin to type the name of the contact's profile page and select the profile from the drop-down function. Enter "Link to profile" in the Link text field.

  8. A Link to personal website or CV can be added if desired. In the Link to personal website or CV block, enter the desired URL. Enter "Link to personal website or CV" in the Link text field.
  9. In the Meta tag information for social media sharing/search/etc. block, the Description of content field is mandatory for the page to be published. The name of the Contact will suffice.
  10. The Associated image is the image used as a thumbnail in social networks and other services. If no image is provided, the University of Waterloo logo will be used.
  11. Advanced configuration options provide more detailed meta tag options for social media.
  12. Navigate to the top right of the page and under Menu Settings select Place in site hierarchy. Select Contacts in the Parent link drop-down menu.
  13. Select state from the Save as: drop-down menu.
  14. Select Save.

Note: Contacts do not automatically update when the WatIAM entry changes, they only pull data from WatIAM when the userid is entered. To update a contact to pull in new data from WatIAM, edit the contact, put your cursor in the userid field and select tab.

Create a contact (non - University of Waterloo user)

  1. From the administration bar, select Workbench, and then select My Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Content Types panel and select the Add button next to Contact.
  3. Fill in the contact information manually starting at Name and Name for Sorting Purposes. The name for sorting purposes is in the format Last Name, First Name.
  4. Insert an optional Listing page image and/or Image (Portrait) by selecting Add media. The Listing page image will appear on the Contacts listing page and the Image (Portrait) will appear on the page of the Contact. There are two options on how to insert these images.
    • Reference existing: Select an image that has already been uploaded to your site from the existing file list. Type the name of the image in the Name field, then select Apply Filters. Select the desired image, then select Insert selected.
    • Add file: Select Browse to upload a file from your computer. Make sure that you are not re-uploading an existing image. Fill in the Name and Alternative text for the image. Select Insert selected
  5. Enter optional Group(s) that this contact belongs to.
  6. Affiliation will default as the University of Waterloo. Enter the Title, Position, or Description.
  7. Optionally add:
    • Email
    • Phone #
    • Location
    • Contact for
    • Additional information
