Website maintainers have the option of embedding a:

  • Facebook timeline - to allow all of your Facebook status updates to be posted directly to your site
  • Facebook single post - to allow a specific Facebook post to appear directly on your site

How to embed a Facebook timeline

  1. Navigate to the piece of content you are wanting your Facebook timeline to appear on.
  2. Place your cursor where you would like the Facebook timeline to appear, and select the Facebook icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.

    Note: Facebook timelines can be embedded into the Body or Sidebar.

  3. A Facebook Properties box will appear.

  4. From the Select your Facebook Feed Type drop-down, select Timeline.

  5. Provide a Facebook page name and Display name:

     University of Waterloo".

    For the Facebook page name: facebook.com/ field, this is where you will enter your page URL, without the domain name (facebook.com/). 

    For the Display name field, this will be the name that is shown on the live page, when Javascript is disabled. Instead of the widget, a link will be shown, for example:

    Facebook text link if Javascript is disabled.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Save.
  8. Publish.

How to embed a Facebook Single post

  1. Navigate to the piece of content you are wanting your Facebook Single post to appear on.
  2. Place your cursor where you would like the Facebook Single post to appear, and select the Facebook icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.

    Note: Facebook Single posts can be embedded into the Body or Sidebar.

  3. A Facebook Properties box will appear.

  4. From the Select your Facebook Feed Type drop-down, select Single Post.

  5. In a new tab or window, find the Facebook post you are wanting to embed. Example:

  6. To obtain the URL of this post, right-click on the date. A smaller menu will appear, select Copy Link Location.

  7. Return to the Facebook Properties window, and provide a Display name and URL of [the] single post:

     Congratulations to Donna Strickland".

    For the Display name field, this will be the name that is shown on the live page, when Javascript is disabled. Instead of the widget, a link will be shown, for example:

    Note: You will have to log in to Facebook in order to obtain the URL of the single post.

    For the URL of a single post field, this is where you will enter the URL obtained in step 8.
  8. For the Include full text of photo/video posts drop-down, select Yes or No.

  10. Save.
  11. Publish.
