Are there any changes for Fall 2021 programming in light of COVID-19?
Fall Orientation 2021 programming will be held online. Details will be shared as they become available.
What will the Orientation schedule look like?
The Orientation schedule will be available in mid-August. Students will be able to view their personalized schedule in Portal once they have registered for Orientation. Keep an eye on your Uwaterloo email for an invitation to register in mid-August.
I'm a new student and will be living in Waterloo this fall, will there be in-person events to attend?
We are closely following Public Health guidelines. At this time, no decision around in-person programming has been made at this time.
If I'm attending classes remotely, how do I register for and participate in Orientation?
All new students will receive an email invitation in mid-August to register for Orientation using UWaterloo Portal.
How will Orientation events be hosted?
Orientation events will be hosted on a variety of platforms, including some live events and some pre-recorded content. After you register for Orientation, all event information will be auto-populated into your Portal calendar with the details you need. Links to access each event will be posted shortly before the event is scheduled to begin.

Why should I attend Orientation?
You are encouraged to participate in two unique programs as a new student: Waterloo Ready and Orientation. The programs offer different information, so it is suggested that you participate fully in both.
During Waterloo Ready, you will be introduced to your Peer Mentor who will give you insider tips, help you navigate your Waterloo Ready modules and coach you through the steps you need to take to become a successful UWaterloo student.
Orientation is your opportunity to build further connections with your classmates and other UWaterloo students, be introduced to the unique traditions at Waterloo and your faculty, and learn more about what Waterloo has to offer.
What is the schedule for Orientation?
Orientation will start on Monday, August 30, 2021, and continue through to September 3, 2021. Classes will begin on September 8, 2021. A schedule of events will be populated as more information is confirmed.
Full schedule details will be available in your Portal calendar once you've registered and event details are finalized in mid-August.
Does Orientation cost anything?
Orientation is free to attend, but registration is required to gain access to the virtual content.
Will the events take place live or will they be pre-recorded?
Orientation programming will be a mix of live events and some pre-recorded content.
Will there be an International student-specific Orientation?
International student programming will be integrated throughout the week. Once you register, you can find event information on your Portal calendar.
How can I join the conversation and connect with other incoming students, upper-year students and Waterloo staff before arriving?
Do I need to register/sign-up for Orientation?
Yes, you will need to register in UWaterloo Portal.
When will registration for Orientation open?
Orientation registration will open in Portal in mid-August. Keep an eye on your UWaterloo email with step-by-step instructions and a link to register.
If I register for Orientation, do I have to attend every event?
We encourage everyone to tune into all of the events, but it is up to you to decide. The events will cover many different topics and be presented in many different styles, so feel free to determine which events you think will best suit your interests and needs.
