This summer Women in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo and BrainSTEM Alliance are running the second iteration of the FLIGHT or Future Leaders Innovating to Go Higher in Technology Summer Camp from August 2nd - 13th.
FLIGHT Virtual Summer Camp is an introduction to tech entrepreneurship for girls aged 13-18 who self-identify as Black and other underrepresented minority.
In this 2-week program, students worked in teams to create a technology-backed business idea around a problem that they identified within the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Guest speakers taught students industry best practices from the design-thinking process - including problem definition, market research, and creating a prototype. To cap off the program, students pitched their idea to a panel of judges for feedback and prizing. The program also included a one-day conference focused on professional development.
