One of the most important aspects in successful student recruitment is an understanding of what students value in the workplace. In order to determine whether employers’ perceptions of value aligned with those of current students, both parties were asked to review value statements. The results indicated a ‘values gap’ occurring between what employers perceive current students to value versus what students stated they valued in the workplace.

These results present significant implications to employee turnover, as nearly half of students will decline a full-time job that fails to match their values, even if it matches their skill set. As a result, it is recommended that employers regularly revisit company culture and employee values to stand the best chance at recruiting the next generation of talent.
