Important Update Regarding the WCC and COVID-19

March 18, 2020

A message from Clare Bermingham, Director, Writing and Communication Centre, University of Waterloo.

Dear University of Waterloo community:

In the midst of COVID-19 and a state of emergency in Ontario, we understand that it’s hard figuring out how to do classes, complete assignments, write your thesis, prepare for your defense, and do the many other tasks you need to do. I’m proud of the amazing team of specialists at the Writing and Communication Centre who have been hard at work finding creative ways to support you online. Many of our services and programs have moved online and more are coming to a virtual environment near you.

All appointments are now online. To pre-book an appointment, check out our appointments page.

Drop-ins are moving online starting Monday, March 23. They’ll be offered as same-day appointments in half-hour blocks. We’ll be announcing a new schedule for drop-ins (hint: these appointments will be available into the late evening for you night birds!). We’re adding other new ways for you to interact with us, as well. Keep visiting the drop-ins page as information is updated.

Arts First Students

If you have a tutor assigned to your Arts First class, they are still working! They will be sharing how you can reach them on LEARN, so check out your course site.

Writing groups #WaterlooWrites

Writing groups are re-launching virtually! Come and join our communities of writers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. All are welcome! Info is available at the grad student and faculty pages.

Dissertation Boot Camp, April 13-16

Our four-day Dissertation Boot Camp in April will be held completely online.

Stay safe and healthy! We know it can be lonely to be stuck at home, but the WCC and so many others at UWaterloo are here to talk with and support you. You’ve got this!

If you have any further questions, concerns, or ideas about how we can help support you through this, please email me,, or our administrative assistant, Meghan Ashdown,
