How can the Writing and Communication Centre help you?
As a grad student, you made the leap from student to professional scholar and learned how to manage large-scale research and writing projects. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are continuing the process of defining your identity as a scholar, and perhaps even as an instructor.
SUPPORT FOR POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS AS WRITERS
At the Writing and Communication Centre, we support postdocs as writers, whether they're working on books, journal articles, grant proposals, or any other project. We offer 50-minute consultations that give you a chance to work through any part of your writing project with a writing and multimodal communication specialist.
For quick questions or check-ins, come to the Library during drop-ins.
You are also welcome to attend any of our workshops for students, including graduate-student exclusive workshops on a wide range of topics, from submitting for publication to giving engaging presentations.
Faculty Writing Café
Need a space to write? Every Wednesday afternoon, we host the Faculty Writing Café – a dedicated writing space (with coffee, tea, and treats!) for faculty and postdocs to write together and discuss writing goals, challenges and strategies with their colleagues.
If you’re not ready to meet face-to-face, our online resources are a great place to start.
SUPPORT FOR POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS AS INSTRUCTORS
The Writing and Communication Centre supports writing and communication at the University of Waterloo in a number of ways. In addition to providing services to students directly, we support students by working with departments, faculty and instructors to provide classroom-integrated support.
We emphasize that all students can benefit from working with a reader who can help to deepen thinking, clarify communication, and encourage an iterative writing process.
Writing and Communication Centre support for classes can come in a variety of formats, including:
- In-class workshops and presentations
- Facilitated peer review sessions
- In-class or supplemental group sessions for workshopping a specific assignment
- Bringing your students to the Writing and Communication Centre
