Combined BASc/MASc Program in Electrical and Compu
Printable Version Printable Version
Students should note that the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has its own requirements for the combined Bachelor's-Master's program; these requirements are different from those of the other Engineering departments. The Electrical and Computer Engineering requirements are:

  1. University of Waterloo Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduates can be admitted to the combined BASc-MASc program provided after the completion of their 3B term if they have an overall average of A or better. This requirement is strictly enforced.
  2. E&CE supervisors have to be found for students before they are admitted to this program even though they may satisfy the academic requirements. Interested students are encouraged to talk to individual E&CE faculty members and explore possibilities of supervision. Both the academic program and financial details should be worked out between the student and the supervisor. These arrangements must then be approved by the E&CE Associate Chair for Graduate Studies.
  3. Students accepted in our BASc-MASc combined program can take, during their 4A or 4B terms or during their work term, as extra, an approved E&CE graduate course which could count towards their MASc degree. This course will not count towards their BASc degree requirements and they can only take it on the approval of the graduate course instructor, supervisor and E&CE Associate Chair for Graduate Studies.
  4. On the approval of the supervisor and E&CE Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, work done by students during their fourth-year work term(s) under the direction of the supervisor can be included in their MASc thesis provided this work was not used for a E&CE 499 project. (If the work is done in industry, permission from the company for the work to be published will be necessary).
