The Master of Applied Science (MASc) may be pursued with full-time or part-time attendance. Admission and degree requirements are outlined below.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for students admitted to the Master of Applied Science (MASc) program are as follows:

  • An Honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent with a B standing (75%).
  • Three letters of reference at least two of which must normally be from academic sources.
  • Proof of competence in English (if applicable). See the English Language Proficiency page for acceptable tests of English.

Students who do not meet the requirements outlined above may be considered for admission to a probationary program depending on their academic background. The admission requirements are at least a B+ standing (78%) in their last year of study or at least 3 years work experience with an overall average in their Bachelor's degree of B- (70%).

Degree Requirements

Degree requirements for the Master of Applied Science (MASc) are as follows:

  • Four one-term courses (0.5 unit weight) (500, 600 or 700 series) acceptable for graduate credit by the Department with an overall average of at least 70%.
  • Only one (1) 500 level course may be counted for credit.
  • The candidate is required to present a seminar on the thesis topic.
  • Submission and acceptance of a thesis embodying the results of the candidate's research. (The thesis is supervised by a faculty advisor, examined by a committee including two or more other members, and placed on display in the Faculty of Engineering Graduate Office).
  • Required to attend 10 Seminars within your program time limit (for example, Master’s Seminar, PhD Comprehensive examination, Defense or External Seminar).
  • Research Methods Workshop.
