Announcing Our Partners

Monday, June 2, 2025

We are pleased to be working closely with many organizations to bring the Local Futures project to life. It’s only through our collective efforts that we can bring the ambitious agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals to Canadian communities.

Learn more about each partner by visiting our Project Partners page.

University Partners – We are working with five Canadian universities: Vancouver Island University, the University of Saskatchewan, Queen’s University, the University of Waterloo, and Dalhousie University.

Our university partners will work closely with their local municipalities to develop a Voluntary Local Review in each community, a report that assesses local progress, challenges, and opportunities for the SDGs in the municipality. This work will be built from a mapping and alignment exercise to understand how current municipal policy and practice aligns with the SDGs, municipal staff interviews, and engagement with community organizations. University partners will also contribute (where able) to the development of the project data methodology, validation of in-community information, and review of materials to be published on the project.

Content Partners – We are working with three partners who are providing expertise in specific areas of project work: REFOCUS/Flourishing Enterprise Institute; the Tamarack Institute; and speaker and entrepreneur Brock Dickinson.

Working with REFOCUS and the Flourishing Enterprise Institute to develop strategies for SDGs data localization and performance measurement using a context-based sustainability approach.

Working with the Tamarack Institute to build knowledge of Collective Impact through an online learning community for community organizations in each of the five project locations, plus supported coaching sessions in each community.

Working with Brock Dickinson to develop in-community engagement approaches and developing understanding on the linkages between municipal operations and the SDGs.

Supporting Partners – We are thankful to be funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Goals Funding Program. We are located in the Grebel Peace Incubator at Conrad Grebel University College and are part of the SDSN Canada community. We are also pleased to partner with the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association.
