It was 1979 and Marg was sitting in the Kinesiology offices that were located, at that time, on the fifth floor of MC. Her first encounter with Bernie was brief – he was poking his head into the office for one reason or another, but they both remember this moment vividly, even though at the time they were in relationships with other people.
Fast-forward to a year-and-a-half later. Bernie was on the social committee for Kinesiology graduate students and had planned a tobogganing party that only had one person show up: Marg. These two graduate students clicked immediately through their common interests in kinesiology and their love of travel and adventure – interests that to this day have continued as they have pursued careers in their field (you might recognize Marg Burnett as the Kinesiology administrative officer), travelled the world together and started their family.
All three of their children have studied the University of Waterloo, with two graduating from AHS!
The sweetest part? Four years after they hung out for the first time, Bernie brought Marg back to that same toboggan hill to ask her to marry him. This past August, they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.
