Networking and connections

Message from the Director of Advancement

2020 has presented us with many challenges and many opportunities. Many of our Applied Health Sciences (AHS) alumni are working in roles that have directly responded to COVID-19; we want to thank you for your hard work and willingness to put yourselves at risk to serve our communities. Thank you also to our alumni community for generously supporting students through the Student Emergency Support Fund.

The AHS Advancement team has welcomed the opportunities presented by 2020 as we continue to work closely together (but virtually) to pivot our plans, events, and opportunities for alumni. One of the most exciting additions to our alumni programming is the launch of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Hub, powered by Ten Thousand Coffees and supported by RBC Future Launch. We have partnered with this professional development platform to bring our alumni and students together for networking opportunities. As you well know, networking is an important part of growing your career. Sharing your experience and expertise with students and new grads is a great way to help shape their career plans. For more information and to get started on the platform, please see Looking for ways to get involved below.

As always, we look forward to hearing your updates as you move through your personal and professional lives. Keep in touch!

Best regards,

Sherri Sutherland, Director of Advancement

Your AHS Advancement team

Looking for ways to get involved?

Networking is an important part of growing your career. It allows you to find new opportunities, build long-lasting relationships, and exchange ideas to improve your industry knowledge. Students and new grads are looking for your expertise as they face a complicated, ever-changing job market.

The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences has partnered with Ten Thousand Coffees, a professional development platform, to create the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Hub. We need your leadership to grow the networking skills of our students and new graduates and set them up for success.

How does it work?

  1. You will be automatically matched with a student each month who has questions related to your background, degree, and skill set. Your match will be sent directly to your inbox.
  2. Grab a virtual coffee with them on the platform of your choice.
  3. Use your University of Waterloo-affiliated mentorship to add to your CV and get a LinkedIn profile certification to add to your volunteer experience.

For more information or if we can help you get started on the platform email your Alumni Advancement Officer, April Tanner.
