The 4th iteration of Success beyond the Classroom, taught by SAF alumnus Upkar Arora (MAcc '85) wrapped up last month with tremendous success and positive feedback. Student Venture Fund Launches
The The School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) has launched the Student Venture Fund (SVF), in partnership with the Conrad Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology Centre (Conrad Centre). The SVF aims to develop elite venture capital investors by giving students the opportunity to invest real money in real companies under the guidance of experienced investors and faculty.

“Uncle Stan” granted Honorary CPA
Congratulations to Professor emeritus, Stanley Laiken for being granted Honorary Membership at the Annual Meeting of CPA Ontario. An Honorary CPA is an elected membership for individuals who have given valuable and distinguished service or have made outstanding and prominent contribution to the accounting profession in Ontario. Congratulations Professor Laiken!
CFA Institute Research Challenge winners
2016 CFA Winning Team – Where are they now?
It’s been a year since School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) students took the world stage by storm at the CFA Institute Research Challenge. The team of five beat out over 1,000 teams from 70 countries to become the World Champions in a business valuation competition, but their journey and achievements certainly did not stop there.

Team EPOCH
Team EPOCH Pitched for $1M global Hult Prize
Team EPOCH delivered an impressive pitch at this years Hult Prize Global Finals held at the United Nations headquarters. EPOCH beat out nearly 50,000 competitors from universities around the world for a spot in the final round of the largest student competition for social entrepreneurs.
IRC competition
SAF’s 5th Annual Investment Research (IRC) Competition
The IRC competition is one of SAF’s experiential learning activities challenging students to utilize their textbook and classroom learning to then integrate and apply their knowledge and problem solving skills in realistic scenarios. The SAF wants to thank all who participated, with special recognition to Anish Chopra and the CPA-SAF Centre for Capital Markets Education for their generous support of the event.
Student winners from Connect Conference
Two SAF Student Teams Win 1st and 3rd Place at Connect Conference
Accounting for the Future, was the theme of this competition created to incorporate the recent changes to the field by understanding the historical information and looking to the future, to where they think the profession is heading. Congratulations to the two student teams from UWaterloo brought back 1st and 3rd place.
