It’s good to be getting back to some sense of normalcy on campus after so many COVID-19 virus disruptions to our lives. I believe humans are resilient and that we can best respond to challenges by working together. And that’s what we’ve been doing.
We have achieved many milestones in the past year. In putting students at the centre of all that we do, we now have two new undergraduate programs – Climate & Environment Change and Sustainability & Financial Management; and, through pan-university collaborations, we are working on two new graduate programs as well. In our quest to advance research for global impact, we have developed the Future Cities initiative. Similarly, the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA), Intact Centre, Partners for Action and Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) are leading sustainability and climate action through partnerships and collaborations.
As the saying goes, “every good thing comes to an end.” The same is true for my stewardship of the Faculty of Environment as Dean. It’s surreal that eight years have gone by since I took the mantle of leadership of the Faculty I love. I am proud of all we have achieved and optimistic about what the future holds for the Faculty of Environment. Hence, this edition of ENVision newsletter portrays stories of some of our outstanding accomplishments.
As I bid goodbye and reflect on our numerous collective achievements in the Faculty over the years, I want to thank the countelss people who have contributed. With our new dean Bruce Frayne, the Faculty will continue to create more legacies and build collaborations and partnerships for a SUSTAINABLE FUTURE TOGETHER.
Enjoy Issue #9 of our newsletter ENVIsion.

Dean, Faculty of Environment
