NANCY BARBER (BA ’98, Recreation and Leisure Studies) was the recipient of two amazing honours last year. She received the 2020 Elsie Award in Business from the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, honouring Canadian women who have made outstanding contributions to aviation and aerospace. Nancy also received a 2020 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award – KPMG C-Suite Executives, recognizing women at the C-Suite level who play a significant strategic role with their organizations. NICHOLAS ANAPOLSKY (BA ’14, Recreation and Leisure Studies) is the owner and head coach at Polsky's Strength and Conditioning in Kitchener. This January, Nick broke the Guinness World Record for most chest-to-ground burpees in one hour. Congratulations on this amazing achievement!
KAREN COVIELLO (BSc ’89, Kinesiology) started a new position as vice-president of Affiliate Success with Habitat for Humanity Canada in January. Thank you Karen for sharing your expertise at our Kinesiology Alumni Roundtable!
SCOTT KISH (BSc ’95, Kinesiology) presented the Prime Minister of Canada a painting created as a memorial to fallen and serving RCMP officers in the wake of the April 2020 Nova Scotia massacre. It now hangs at Rideau Cottage, where the Prime Minister is currently residing.
MONIQUE WASHNUK (BA ’06, Recreation and Business) started her new role as director, Donor Engagement and Fundraising at Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation in November.
CATARINA MARTINS (BSc ’05, Kinesiology) successfully passed the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario licensing exam in September. Catarina is a part-time professor of fitness and health promotion at Durham College.
Our Advancement Team has seen some changes recently too. Congratulations to Jennifer (Jenn) Bentley (BSc ’08, Kinesiology) our new Alumni Advancement Officer and to Megan (Meg) Muir (BA ’18, MA ’19, Recreation) who has joined us for 10-months as our Advancement Coordinator. Meg is covering Clare Stevens’ (BA ’17, MA ’19, Recreation) secondment as Health’s Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator.
