Networking and connections

Message from the Director of Advancement

Thank you to the alumni, donors and sponsors who have connected with us over the last year to support the Faculty of Health and its students.

Alumni joined us at four virtual roundtables to discuss what made their journey at Waterloo special and how that has shaped their career and lives. They shared what the qualities and skills students need today to be career ready for the roles that are traditional for our graduates. We also spoke with alumni entrepreneurs and founders on how to take that same education into not-so-traditional roles. When alumni share their time and expertise with us, it is invaluable, and we thank each of them.

On another note, our Faculty name change gave us an opportunity to change the name of our alumni magazine. We invited both alumni and future alumni to participate in a contest to rename the magazine. We had 235 submissions, including some very funny ones, and as you can see, our magazine’s new name is “Health Hub.” Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to our contest winners, who were chosen at random from the pool of submissions.

I look forward to connecting with more of you in the coming months!

Have you joined the Health Hub on Ten Thousand Coffees?

Student sitting with coffee and tablet with lake scene in background.Networking is an important part of growing your career. It allows you to find new opportunities, build long-lasting relationships, and exchange ideas to improve your industry knowledge. Students and new grads are looking for your expertise as they face a complicated, ever-changing job market.

The Faculty of Health partnered with Ten Thousand Coffees, a professional development platform, to create the Faculty of Health Hub. We need your leadership to grow the networking skills of our students and new graduates and set them up for success. We are thrilled to share that RBC Future Launch has approved funding for another year and we thank them for their generous support.

How does it work?

  1. You will be automatically matched with a student each month who has questions related to your background, degree, and skill set. Your match will be sent directly to your inbox.
  2. Grab a virtual coffee with them on the platform of your choice.
  3. Use your University of Waterloo-affiliated mentorship to add to your CV and get a LinkedIn profile certification to add to your volunteer experience.

For more information or if we can help you get started on the platform email your Alumni Advancement Officer, Jenn Bentley.
