This fall marks the start of a new chapter in our work to support Canadian communities and municipalities in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We look to the coming six to eight months to apply this work and begin taking stock of SDGs progress in our five participating communities.

We are pleased to be working with Dr. Chad Walker, Assistant Professor of Low-Carbon Transitions in the School of Planning at Dalhousie University, to bring the Local Futures project to life in the City of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We are pleased to partner with Dr. Carolyn DeLoyde and Dr. Betsy Donald at Queen’s University to bring the Local Futures project to life in the City of Kingston, Ontario.

Future-oriented VLRs are an opportunity for cities to embrace the ambitious vision of the SDGs, incorporate the principles of holistic sustainable development and operationalize the Goals for city planning.

Local Futures Project Launched!

Local Futures: Communities Collaborating for the Sustainable Development Goals was launched on March 5, 2025. The event featured a panel discussion with project partners who highlighted different components of the project.
