'01 BMath: We're proud to say that Richard Hoshino received the 2017 Adrien Pouliot Award for significant and sustained contributions to mathematics education in Canada.

'16 BMath: Corey Sinnamon (BMath’16) is getting recognized for great research. Corey and Professor John Brzozowski received the Sheng Yu Award for best paper at the 22nd International Conference on Implementation and Application of Automata.

'16 PhD: Congratulations to Martin Derka and his supervisor Professor Therese Biedl , as well as colleagues Markus Chimani and Petra Mutzel for receiving the best paper award at 28th International Symposium on Algorithms and Computation.

In memoriam

'68 BMath, '69MMath: We sadly announce the passing of Professor Arnie Dyck (1945-2017). Arnie, along with Jay Black and Shirley Fenton redesigned CS 100 in 1985. This course has been offered to tens of thousands of students.The first Computer Science academic advisor, Arnie later became the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Even after retiring he continued working at Waterloo as the Associate Dean for Co-operative Studies in the Faculty of Mathematics, a position he held until 2011.
