Alumni Events

July 2017

YAHOO! That was the sound heard for days as the Dean joined Calgary Math alumni and their families for two events leading up to Stampede.  Beer + Quantum Physics at Telus Spark started off a great trip, which finished with a sea of pink cowboy hats as over 100 alumni gathered to celebrate Math’s 50th anniversary at the Stampede Parade. Their Waterloo fashion statement (pink cowboy hats) even caught the eye of Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley!

Art and Mathematics combined in a beautiful way at the 2017 Bridges Conference. The conference, devoted to Mathematics, Music, Art, Architecture, Education, and Culture brought out over 2,000 participants to view exhibits, hear talks, and participate in an afternoon of community activities, games, workshops, interactive demonstrations, presentations, performances, and art exhibitions for children and adults.

September 2017

Alumni from as far away as Australia and Hong Kong came back to campus to celebrate the Faculty’s 50th at Reunion, and join us for a pancake breakfast, amazing math race, and decades forum. The day was capped off with our first ever “Pink Tie Party” where over 225 mathies celebrated our first 50 years with music, dancing, and a surprise pink candy buffet!

October 2017

Mathies on the US eastern seaboard got an opportunity to celebrate together by joining in alumni events at Stout NYC, and Clarke’s in Boston. Both events were great opportunities to meet and network with fellow alumni in the area, and find out what’s coming up with the local chapters.

On October 20th, we celebrated convocation with over 400 undergraduates, more than 100 Master's degrees and nearly 25 PhDs. That means we've handed out over 41,000 degrees! Congratulations to our newest graduates!
