Do you know a Mathie who’s distinguished themselves, or is outstanding in their field? Each year the Faculty of Mathematics Awards Selection committees (made up of alumni volunteers) read through dozens of nominations of those Mathies who have made a difference in their field of study, community, and workplace.
From those nominations, recipients are chosen by a committee of their peers. This year’s recipients of the Alumni and Young Alumni Achievement Awards represent a wide selection of some of the areas our Mathies have become so successful in: entrepreneurship, academia, nongovernmental organization (NGO), and the private sector.
- Brian Arbogast, BMath ’86 – Alumni Achievement – Director, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
- Patrick Hayes, BMath ’12 – Young Alumni Achievement – Co-founder and VP of Engineering, SigOpt
- Niky Kamran, PhD ’84 – Alumni Achievement – Professor, Mathematics and Statistics, McGill University
- Dora Vell, MMath ’87 – Alumni Achievement – CEO & Managing Partner, Vell Executive Search
We look forward to welcoming our Award Recipients back to campus on Thursday, January 25th as they share their insights with students, faculty, and staff, and then join the Faculty Awards Banquet as they accept their awards. Find out how you can nominate someone for a Faculty of Mathematics award - applications are welcome year round (and are anonymous). If you know someone who’s graduated from Math at Waterloo and think they deserve consideration, don’t hesitate…nominate them today!
