In July, the newest addition to the MC 3rd floor Comfy Lounge, the LoopDean Stephen Watt explains the elliptical pool table Pool Table was unveiled by the Dean, and President of MathSoc for students to enjoy. Guests from the government of Bermuda on campus at WaterlooLater that month, members of the Bermuda government toured the Math Buildings, Co-operative Education, and the Perimeter Institute as part of a fact-finding mission, to strengthen ties with the Faculty of Mathematics and the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing.

The end of August brought new Mathies to campus, beginning with the  International Student Welcome at Pearson Airport. Staff and student volunteers from the Faculty of Mathematics joined other volunteers to welcome our new international students coming into Pearson International Airport ahead of Orientation Week, and the start of classes. Anxious new students (including a lot of new math students) were greeted, reassured, and encouraged prior to boarding buses that brought them to campus (many for the first time).

Math Orientation leader teaching the math dance outside the Davis CentreThe end of Orientation week brought the Dean out to the DC Quad for the Annual Pink Tie Pledge and Ceremony. Over one thousand new Math students sang, danced, and celebrated receiving the coveted pink tie from their new instructors and faculty members.

The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science hosted the 2018 Cheriton Research Symposium in the Davis Centre on September 21. This year's symposium consisted of presentations by David R. Cheriton himself, along with presentations by David R. Cheriton Faculty Fellows Bernard Wong and Edward Lank.

Three members of the Class of 1968 joined other alumni (including representatives from the Class of 1973), faculty, staff and students to celebrate Reunion 2018. Activities included a pancake breakfast, building polytopes with Prof. Benoit Charbonneau, a President’s Milestone Luncheon, and a visit to Warrior Field (where the Warriors struggled against the Western Mustangs).

November 1 – New York City: Where uWaterloo meets Cybersecurity & Privacy - Join President and Vice-Chancellor Feridun Hamdullahpur for a panel discussion on the far-reaching field of cybersecurity and privacy. This event will feature a panel of experts sharing their knowledge and understanding, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Register today.

November 10 – Celebrate the 314th day of the year with some pie, wherever you are.

November 10 – Seattle - Bring the whole family to celebrate the 314th day of the year with pie along with your former classmates, Stephen M. Watt, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, and Ian Vanderburgh, Director of the Centre for Education in Math and Computing (CEMC). As space is limited, we have two event time slots.
