University of Waterloo researchers are developing intelligent systems that can detect cancer and heart disease, understand language and emotion, and navigate roadways and factory floors better than ever before. In April, we made headlines when the Faculty of Mathematics joined with Engineering to launch of the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute (Waterloo.ai). The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development was on hand for the launch event, meeting with researchers to discuss their work and participating in a panel that included Kate Larson, of the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science.
