Alumni Events

November 2017

Hong Kong alumni with President and Vice Chancellor Feridun Hamdullahpur and Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis We were extremely fortunate to celebrate the University of Waterloo’s 60th Anniversary dinner in Hong Kong on November 27th. Thank you to the university’s Alumni Association (Hong Kong) who along with 600 alumni and friends commemorated this special occasion.

All six of the deans were present along with the University of Waterloo’s President and Vice-Chancellor Feridun Hamdullahpur. The 60th anniversary dinner also featured many special guests including Waterloo alumnus James Lau (BMath '76 & MMath '77) and the Consul General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macau, Jeff Nankivell.

December 2017

The Dean of Mathematics presenting at the Canadian Mathematical Society's conference.Over 200 mathematicians and alumni gathered at the University of Waterloo in early December for the Canadian Mathematical Society’s annual Conference, hosted by the Department of Pure Mathematics. Some great opportunities to reunite with past classmates and friends came together as participants greeted the Dean of the Faculty at a reception and listened to the 2017 Adrien Pouliot Lecture by recipient Richard Hoshino (BMath ’01).

On January 25th, the Faculty of Mathematics celebrated the achievements of both students and alumni at the 31st Annual Mathematics Awards Ceremony and Dinner. This year, over $1.8 million in scholarships and awards was presented to many illustrious undergraduate students. We were honoured to have our Alumni Achievement Award recipients Brian Arbogast, Niky Kamran, Dora Vell, and Young Alumni Achievement Award recipient Patrick Hayes attend the dinner and receive their awards. All four delivered inspiring presentations to students, faculty and staff related to their current careers.

February 2018

February saw Mathies converge on the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) for the Math Alumni, Family & Friends Day. Sporting their pink attire, and fuelled by cookies and hot chocolate,
Mathies let ideas reign supreme at Inventorium, a hands-on learning space where art and design meld with science, technology, engineering and math. If you have an idea for where you’d like next year’s event to be held, email the alumni team at mathalumni@uwaterloo.ca. Watch the math website for 2019 event details.
