Data + Diversity - (Tuesday, March 7, 2023)

Gardiner Museum, Toronto, ON

What is ethical data governance and how can organizations use it to understand the composition of their employee bases? How are they using it strategically to change the face of their institutions?

In this event, we'll explore how data can be used to strategically change the face of an institution and the benefits this could bring to society as a whole. Join moderator Charmaine Dean (PhD ’88), Vice President, Research and International, for this meaningful discussion.

March Break Open House - (Saturday, March 18, 2023)

Do you know high school students looking for more information about our programs, admission and scholarships and want to see our facilities? Come visit campus on Saturday March 18 from 10am-4pm at our winter open house to sit in on program presentations, meet current students and professors and take a tour of campus. Registration is appreciated.

Pi Day – (Tuesday March 14, 2023)

Celebrate Pi Day with alumni around the world. Watch the Faculty’s social media channels for more details in March about how you can win a prize and maybe even get a pie! A special video that will share the recent accomplishments of the Faculty will land in your email on March 14th. Let’s join together virtually and celebrate! 

Preparing for Euclid - (Thursday, February 2 - Thursday, March 16, 2023)

Do you know a high school students who will be participating in this year Euclid Contest, but can't maek it to campus?  We're offering Euclid Prep sessions for students in grades 11 to 12 from all over the world. We will have fun learning tips and techniques for solving problems. Members of the Math Admissions team will be in attendance to answer your questions about scholarships and admissions.

Math and Research Discovery Days – (April 17 & 18, 2023)

The Math & Computing Research Discovery Days is a new multi-day showcase featuring research from the University of Waterloo Faculty of Mathematics. The inaugural iteration of this annual event will bring together current and prospective industry partners to engage in discussion about leading research topics and the impacts this research will have. Fostering and supporting student engagement in mathematical innovation and entrepreneurship will be at the forefront of this initiative. 

Save-the-date: Women in Mathematics Day – (May 12, 2023) 

The Waterloo Women's Impact Network is hosting an in-person and virtual celebration to mark the occasion. Join us and other alumni, faculty and students as we engage in fun puzzle challenges and discussions on diversity in mathematics. Our in-person celebration will be held on campus from 12:00-2:00 EST and will feature a chance to interact our students and math community over an afternoon tea service. For those unable to make it to campus, we invite you to participate in the discussions and engage virtually from 12:30-1:15 pm (9:30-10:15 am PST).  More details and a registration page will be provided in early April. Forever Black and Gold Luncheon

Saturday, June 3, 2023 | 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Federation Hall, University of Waterloo

Join us at Fed Hall for a gourmet buffet lunch, interactive activities and displays and live music. Reconnect and mingle with alumni and friends from all faculties and wear or bring along your favourite University of Waterloo clothing or memorabilia for a chance to win great prizes!

Milestone Anniversary Celebration

This event will feature a special celebration for alumni celebrating 25th, 50th, 55th and 60th anniversaries, with an archives display of photos and memorabilia from the milestone years and a celebratory address by University of Waterloo President Vivek Goel.

Cost: $30.00, includes gourmet buffet lunch and a drink ticket

There will be halal and vegetarian/vegan options available.

János Aczel Celebration of Life

Saturday, June 3, 2023 | 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. | M3 Atrium

In honor of Distinguished Professor Emeritus János Aczel, join the Faculty of Mathematics and his family and friends on Saturday, June 3 at 2:30 pm in the M3 Atrium to commemorate and celebrate the achievements and life of Janos Aczel. János became a professor in the Department of Pure Mathematics in 1965 after holding positions at the University of Cologne, Lajos Kossuth University, University of Miskolc, and University of Szeged. Help us honour a piece of math's history during János Aczel Celebration of Life.

Faculty of Mathematics Reception: Recognizing Success

Saturday, June 3, 2023 | 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. | BMH Green

Mark Giesbrecht, Dean, Faculty of Mathematics, will host current and past award winners, alumni, faculty, staff, and students on June 3, 2023 on the BMH Green from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a truly memorable outdoor reception. Guests will learn about how the faculty is shaping the future and will celebrate the accomplishments of the Faculty of Mathematics Alumni Achievement Medalists and distinguished Mathematics students. Celebrate fellow alumni and enjoy connecting with friends old and new.

Self-guided tours will be available prior to the reception.
