RxTx – Canadian drug information at your fingertips

RxTx, formerly known as e-Therapeutics, is the most comprehensive Canadian solution to drug information and therapeutics. The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) provides two main sources of information; drug information through the well-known Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties (CPS), and therapeutics through the Compendium of Therapeutic Choices (CTC) and the Compendium for Minor Ailments (CTMA).

Many alumni and CAO members already take advantage of access to RxTx provided by the Witer Learning Resource Centre at the School of Optometry and Vision Science.

Rx – Drug Information

Need information about a particular drug? With the CPS, available through RxTx, the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) creates a value added resource by managing, reviewing and compiling drug product monographs, developed by manufacturers and approved by Health Canada.

Tx - Therapeutics

Need help choosing a drug for therapies? With the CTC, CTMA and its companion resource, the Compendium of Products for Minor Ailments (CPMA), the CPhA creates an evidence-based drug therapy resource by reviewing (by external peer-review and editorial review) and compiling each therapeutic topic, written by an expert author. There are currently over 250 common medical conditions included.

Clin-Info Tool – provides a handy dosing calculator, drug and food interactions, and clinical topics (such as drug use during pregnancy).

Lexi Drug Interaction – search for drug-drug, drug-allergy, and duplicate therapy interactions. This search tool provides an additional drug interactions reference to the drug monographs in the CPS.

RxTx Mobile

All current students and staff of the University of Waterloo have access to the RxTx Mobile App.

The mobile app is also available for download depending on the subscription. Drawing from the RxTx online resources, it provides the following tool: Monographs (CPS), Drug Choices (Therapeutics, Tx), Advisories, Calculators, Manufacturers, Acronyms, and Microbe Abbr.

Searching and Navigating

Searching and navigating the RxTx interface is now easier with recent upgrades to the online interface. Still, exploring the CPS drug monographs thru searching drugs by brand, generic, class name etc. is a great way to discover what RxTx has to offer and how it can be useful in your clinical practice. There is also a RxTx User Guide outlining how to search the new interface.
