Dayan Ban is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He earned BASc and MASc degrees at the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China (1993 and 1995 respectively), and a PhD at the University of Toronto (2003).
In 2009 he was a visiting scientist at the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA. He was a research staff member at the Institute for Microstructural Sciences at the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada, before joining the University of Waterloo in 2005. He was a visiting scientist from 2001-2002 at Nortel, where he and his colleagues developed and applied novel scanning probe microscopy techniques.
Professor Ban’s research interests include optoelectronics, semiconductor quantum devices, terahertz quantum cascade lasers, infrared optical upconversion devices, infrared imaging devices, scanning probe microscopy, nanotechnology and nanofabrication.
