Research in the School of Public Health and Health Systems

What some researchers in the School are studying:

Hand holding a vaping device.

David Hammond and a team from the U.S., England and Australia found there has been a dramatic rise in teen vaping in North America, probably due to a new generation of e-cigarettes with higher levels of nicotine.

George Heckman.

George Heckman and John Hirdes found that long-term care homes can identify which new residents are at risk of hospitalization or death in the first 90 days of admission by using a combination of standard assessment tools.

Sugar pouring out of a soda can.

Taxes on sugary products and labels on the front of packages are effective when it comes to reducing sugar consumption, showed a study co-authored by Sharon Kirkpatrick, David Hammond and others.

Kelly Skinner.

Are fish safe to eat? Brian Laird and Kelly Skinner are part of a research project that is studying the health concerns and risks among Indigenous community members, as well as the environmental determinants of mercury and nutrients in wild-harvested fish.
