You can make a difference

Being a post-secondary student isn’t always easy. With the focus on balancing academic responsibilities, personal goals and financing our way throughout our education, there is a lot of worry and uncertainty involved with the entire experience.

Jasmine Ali-Gami.I was fortunate enough to be awarded the “Kinesiology Award: A Noble Pursuit,” graciously donated by Ron Noble (BSc ’80). This award is given to a student who has made an impact in the health-care field through research, volunteer activities and/or co-op experiences.

The nature of this award really fosters the idea of holistic learning and development. The traditional way of learning is through academics and schooling. However, there are numerous other ways one can go about furthering their knowledge and making a contribution to the different environments they work in – such as research, volunteer and work experiences.

This award was a source of validation – that a lot of the hours that I devoted to further enhancing my career outside of school are just as beneficial to what I learned in the classroom, and that despite wherever I am in my educational journey, I can still make contributions to the spaces and people I work with.

With this award, I was able to stay motivated and focus on my academic and personal work, with a decreased amount of stress in paying off my student loans, which is a very common worry amongst many university students.

As alumni, supporting students through scholarships is a great way to not only stay involved with the institution but to also benefit and inspire the lives of the students studying at that institution. Thank you, Mr. Noble, and to everyone who contributes to this effort.

A Noble pursuit

James Rush and Ron Noble. Many thanks to Ron Noble (BSc ’80, Hons Kinesiology), who first offered this scholarship in 2018, and endowed it this year so it can be funded in perpetuity.

"It is important for us all to contribute to the betterment of society and the creation of a social conscience through our careers, volunteer work and family. The scholarship, 'A Noble Pursuit,' was created in this spirit to recognize the development of our community leaders now and their contributions into the future." - Ron Noble
