1993
Stacey Daub (BA ’93, Sociology, MA ’99, Gerontology) took the reins as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Quinte Health Care in January 2021, after serving as Vice President, Strategy, Integration and Digital Health at North York General Hospital in Toronto. Stacey’s health care leadership experience spans two decades and includes serving as President and CEO of Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville and CEO of the Toronto Community Care Access Centre.
Brad Regehr (BA ’93) became the first Indigenous president of the Canadian Bar Association in September 2020. Brad was the President of the Manitoba Bar Association from 2015-2017 and was the first Indigenous to hold that office. In 2017 he joined Maurice Law as a partner and started its Winnipeg office. His ongoing work with the bar association has helped inspire and promote young lawyers and members of Indigenous communities nationwide.
1997
Janine Barry (BA ’97) was named as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women in 2020 by Women’s Executive Network (WXN). Janine has been the Assistant Vice President, Digital Engagement at Manulife Bank of Canada since 2019. She has been with Manulife Bank for more than 10 years and is active in driving the organization’s digital transformation and has championed the move to Agile delivery and human-centered design.
2006
Dianne Carmichael (BA ’06, Liberal Arts), through her company Carmichael Worldwide Inc. which provides interim CEO services to help health tech startups scale globally, was named CEO of Vitall Intelligence Inc. and Chair of the Board at NeuPath Health Inc. in 2020. A Top 20 Business Woman in Canada, Schulich Top 100 leader, Top Women Changing HC, and a WXN Most Powerful Woman, Dianne was the Faculty of Arts’ 2019 Alumni Achievement Award recipient.
2010
Alexandra Horwood (BA ’10, Legal Studies) was recently awarded one of Top 50 Advisors in Canada for the fifth consecutive year by Wealth Professional Canada Magazine. Alexandra is also the recipient of the Canadian Advisor of the Year 2019 Award, was ranked the top female investment advisor in Canada in 2017 and 2019, featured as Canada’s Power 50 by Bay Street Bull, highlighted in Women of Influence and awarded Outstanding Advisory Team by Wealth Professional Magazine.
2014
Natalia Uribe (BA ’14, Peace and Conflict Studies) completed her MA, International Development Studies at York University in June of 2020, and joined the Mental Health Commission of Canada in September as their Program Coordinator for Roots of Hope, a community-led program aimed at reducing the impacts of suicide within communities across Canada. The program builds upon community expertise to implement suicide prevention interventions that are tailored to the local context and community needs.
2015
Daniel Pearson Hirdes (BA ’15, Psychology) is the CEO and Co-Founder of HealthIM, a company based in Kitchener that supports emergency responders as they interact with persons suffering from mental health challenges. The company’s system summarizes any available safety information and then guides responders through an evidence-based short risk assessment. The system will also securely connect a responder to the local emergency or community mental health units. Since 2015, the system has been implemented across Canada, currently operating in four provinces.
2017
Vivek Ramakrishnan (PhD ’17, French) After graduating with his doctorate from Waterloo, Vivek is now a permanent French teacher in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, where he loves his job teaching.
2019
Patrick Lalonde (PhD ’19, Sociology) recently began a new permanent faculty position in the Department of Criminology at Douglas College in New Westminster, B.C. Patrick’s research interests include Canadian border security, surveillance, policing, and technologization and simulation of migration/mobility.
Maria Morrone (BA ’19, Sociology) recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Modern Thrift Collective, a small business curating a collection of pre-loved home decor locally sourced in Kitchener Waterloo. Maria is also Marketing Coordinator at Greater KW Chamber of Commerce.
