Meet the New Type of LED Display

Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) Translucent Displays

Introduction

What once seemed to be science fiction has now become the future in retail advertising. Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) Transparent displays are both a practical and functional tool that can be utilized by retail outlets to promote their products and services. The display solution also offers an opportunity for designers to overlay digital content.

How it works

The difference between Transparent Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screens and transparent OLED screens is that OLED screens display black content as transparent instead of white content. OLED screens are filled with millions of pixels, each emitting their own light.

The components involved to display dynamic or interactive content via transparent surfaces are substrate, cathode, and anode.  OLED screens use an organic carbon-based material that can omit light through electricity. This material is sandwiched between a conductive layer, which becomes positively charged, and an emissive layer, which becomes negatively charged.  OLED technology is much more responsive and easily adaptable for the future development in transparent and mirror displays [1].

Benefits & uses

One of the strengths of OLED screens is that the display is brighter without using as much electricity as an LCD screen. The layers in comparison to LCD screens are lighter, thinner, and more flexible. Given its multi-layered and flexible frame, retail has the opportunity to utilize a low energy, highly interactive sign that is more easily produced.

The transparent displays are essentially a plastic screen in comparison to glass, which also makes manufacturing more flexible in regards to display size. These transparent screens produce light whereas LCD displays block light. This gives a display range of t70 degrees, a much wider range of view than what was once thought possible, which opens up possibilities for new forms of advertisement and design [2].

Conclusion

Transparent OLED displays can pave the way for new visual experiences that can be utilized for advertising and design. Retail companies can benefit from investing into this new technology. With its high quality visual and flexible design, these screens will bring the world of digital displays to a whole new level, which will ultimately enhance the consumer's experience.
