What is Velocity Start?

Are you:

A young entrepreneur looking for entrepreneurial guidance?
A student eager to meet people that share the same ideas as you?
Someone looking for a new study space?
Hungry for a new place to eat on campus?

Velocity Start is a new work-space on campus that opened in January 2016. It aims to provide an encouraging and helpful environment for aspiring entrepreneurs. At Velocity Start you can meet students from all educational backgrounds, eager to talk about business. Working with other people who are business-oriented is a great way to network and learn something about business.

However, the Velocity Start workplace isn’t strictly for business-oriented people.

It’s a cool place to work and is available to anybody who would like to use it.
You’re welcome to use Velocity Start as a study space or a cafeteria.
Velocity Start is open to students from all faculties.

Lounge & Workspace

The Velocity Start workspace/lounge is located on the second flood of South Campus Hall (SCH). There are comfortable couches, chairs, and work tables.

Everyone is welcome to eat or study in that space. Students can also meet and collaborate with other students.

Workshops

Velocity hosts many workshops throughout each term. Every workshop focuses on a unique topic, so you can learn something new all the time. There are also brainstorming sessions and panel discussions. All these events are definitely beneficial and will enable you to learn about entrepreneurship topics, gain new skills and network.

Velocity Fund

Do you have a million-dollar business venture that you would like to start? Velocity Fund can help you raise the funds that you need to start your business. Each year, the program offers a total of $375k to local start-ups through its $25k and $5k programs.

Information regarding the different kinds of funds, application process, and funding criteria is available on the Velocity Fund web page.

South Side Marketplace

South Side Marketplace is the new eatery created in partnership with Velocity Start. It is open Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to buy something to eat from South Side Marketplace. There is a wide-range of items on the menu, cooked by highly trained chefs. You will find sushi, shawarma, pho, coffee, tea, and more.
