Daniel Bratton taught Canadian and American literature at Ryerson University (Toronto Metropolitan University) and the University of Toronto in Mississauga before spending seventeen years in the Far East, first in South Korea and then in Japan. He was a professor at Miyazaki International College in Miyazaki, Kyushu, and Doshisha University in Kyoto, where he also taught in the Graduate School of Education at Kyoto University. He is co-founder of the Elora Poetry Centre.
