Dr. Kevin G. Cai is Full Professor of Political Science and East Asian Studies at Renison University College, University of Waterloo. His primary research interests include Chinese foreign policy, US–China relations, cross-Taiwan Strait relations, global economic governance, and the political economy of East Asia.
A widely published scholar, Dr. Cai is the author of four monographs, five edited volumes—including most recently The US–China Rivalry: Domestic Dynamics, Competition and Implications (Edward Elgar, 2026)—and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Since 2014, he has served as Series Editor for Palgrave Macmillan’s book series, Politics and Development of Contemporary China.
Dr. Cai teaches courses spanning East Asian studies, contemporary China, International Relations, International Political Economy, and Comparative Politics. In recognition of his academic contributions and pedagogical excellence, he is the recipient of both the Renison Faculty Research Award and the Renison Faculty Teaching Award.
