- BS, Speech-Language Pathology, Bloomsburg University
I am happy to be part of the dedicated English Language Studies (ELS) faculty team here at Renison! I originate from central Pennsylvania, where I earned my Masters in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) degree at Penn State University. Over the past 20 years, I have taught in several academic English programs in the U.S. and Canada and have worked with hundreds of international students from an array of cultural backgrounds. I truly admire these courageous individuals who leave home to study in a foreign language and classroom. They motivate me to continually reflect on my teaching and upgrade my practices.Areas of particular interest to me are oral communication skills and pronunciation, due in part to my undergraduate studies in Speech-Language Pathology. My other specialty areas are grammar and writing.
Beyond the university, it gives me great pleasure to serve others in the local area through the English practice program that I coordinate at my church in downtown Kitchener. Guided by my Christian faith, I enjoy reaching out in friendship to newcomers to Canada and helping them acquire the language skills they need to be successful in their education, employment, and community.
