Message from the Director of Advancement

Dear alumni and friends,

What is your favourite memory as a student in the Faculty of Health? Did you have a favourite class or professor? Did you bond with classmates who became your friends for life? When was the last time you all gathered together on campus?

Our experiences in university can influence our passions, careers and relationships long after we walk across that stage. While our experiences belong to us we can support someone else’s dream. One of the ways we do that for students is to provide learning experiences outside the classroom. The launch of the Faculty of Health Student Experiential Learning Fund last September is supporting that initiative. With donor support we will provide funding for unpaid or underpaid positions in non-profit organizations, startups and for other experiential activities.

Our Giving Tuesday 2021 donations have been directed to this fund. Thank you to everyone who contributed. A special thank you to Krista McKerracher (BSc ’84) for her challenge grant. She challenged us to increase donors and we did by 336.4 per cent!

We will continue to grow this fund to ensure that students do not have to choose between a position that will support their life goals and a job that does not serve their dreams. The first grants will be distributed in fall 2022.

We also recognize the value of our alumni volunteers who supported our strategic planning, mentored students through Ten Thousand Coffees or in the classroom, answered surveys and have been a phone call away to share their stories and advice.

I hope to see you on campus soon. Reunion, anyone?

Sherri Sutherland.Warm regards,

Sherri Sutherland
