Benoît Dessirier, a Postdoctoral Fellow from Stockholm Univeristy, was visiting the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) from March 4th to 29th, 2019 to work on a nitrogen (N) model for the LEAP project with Dr. Kim Van Meter, who was newly appointed as an Assistant Professor in the UIC Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The purpose of the visit was to complete and format the compilation of historical data from the Norrström basin (Sweden) in order to perform an analysis of the N trajectory for the past 200 years with the ELEMeNT-N model. Benoît and Kim were successful in that endeavor and the model is now undergoing calibration. In the process, they also identified subwatersheds across a range of cropland areas with long time series of water chemistry measurements that will be studied individually to refine understanding of the N dynamics over the whole watershed.
