Think About Math! Workshop  - April 12, Waterloo, ON

Waterloo Conference in Statistics, Actuarial Science and Finance - April 30th & May 1st
This conference series brought top Canadian and international scholars, as well as relevant industry leaders, in the broad fields of statistical, actuarial and financial studies, to present and discuss the most cutting-edge advances in the respective fields.

Inaugural Women in Mathematics Day - May 12
This date marks the birthdate of the late female mathematician, Maryam Mirzakhani. She was an Iranian mathematician and a Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University.

Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) Annual General Meeting and Conference - May 26-29
Alumni and Friends were invited for an evening reception at the University of Calgary. Professor Stefan Steiner presented welcoming remarks and Waterloo updates.

Master of Actuarial Science (MACTSC) 10th Anniversary - May 31
Past and current students, faculty, and industry supporters were invited to celebrate their hard work over the past decade.

Alumni Weekend - June 1 (SOLD OUT
The Faculty of Mathematics presented an engaging lecture series entitled, On the Shoulders of Giants, showcasing our incredible faculty founders who were ahead of their era, followed by a talk from an alumnus doing cutting edge work in that area. 

Recognizing Excellence Lecture Series - June 13 (SOLD OUT)
The Faculty of Mathematics is exceptionally proud of our alumni for their outstanding accomplishments, innovation, and achievements within their research, communities, and professions. The Recognizing Excellence lecture allowed math to showcase discussions presented by this year’s Alumni Achievement and J.W. Graham Medalists.

Math and Engineering alumni and friends in London gathered together for a cybersecurity panel discussion and networking event.

SEPTEMBER 2019

Fall Orientation “O” Week - September 1-6
The end of Orientation week brought the Dean out to the DC Quad for the Annual Pink Tie Pledge and Ceremony. Over one thousand new Math students sang, danced, and celebrated receiving the coveted pink tie from their new instructors and faculty members.

Canadian University Get Free Tour - September 16
The University of Waterloo was the first stop on the Canadian University Get Free Tour hosted by UN Women. Special guests included Elizabeth Nyamayaro, Senior Advisor to Undersecretary-General and Executive Director, UN Women and HeForShe advocate/actor Edgar Ramirez.

2019 Cheriton Research Symposium - September 20
The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science hosted the annual Cheriton Research Symposium in the Davis Centre. This year’s symposium consisted of presentations by Cheriton Faculty Fellows, Dan Brown and Urs Hengartner.

Alumni were invited on September 26th to meet and catch up with fellow alumni for a Thursday night mixer at the Brave Horse Tavern in Seattle.

Reunion is now Alumni Black and Gold Day. Over the course of the day, alumni participated in the AHS Fun Run, Lectures, Warrior Picnic, Hall of Fame Induction, VIP Tent, and cheered on the football team.

Waterloo Mathematics Networking Reception at Wish Toronto - October 9 (SOLD OUT)
Math and Engineering alumni were invited to an after-work reception at the Wish offices in Toronto. Speakers included Wish CEO and Co-founder Peter Szulczewski (BMath '05), with campus updates from the University of Waterloo.

Dean Stephen M. Watt enjoyed visiting alumni in Boston earlier this Fall. The trip ended with a dinner graciously hosted at the home of alumna, Dora Vell.  Thank you to our alumni who shared their stories and their passion for their alma mater.  We look forward to visiting again soon!
