New Continuing Education course: Enhancing eye care through interprofessional collaboration

Our newest continuing education course was developed by a team of experts from the University of Waterloo's Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE), School of Optometry & Vision Science and School of Pharmacy. It was designed to bring you the latest in clinical and therapeutic information, while highlighting the importance of interprofessional collaboration between pharmacists and optometrists in the management of their patients.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge, skills and judgment to:

  • Analyze their current practice to identify opportunities to initiate or improve interprofessional collaboration with optometrists/pharmacists
  • Identify opportunities for and benefits of interprofessional collaboration between pharmacists and optometrists, for patients with contact lens-related red eye conditions
  • Recognize the role of pharmacists and optometrists in assessing and educating patients with dry eye disease
  • Recognize the role of the pharmacist and optometrist in educating and advising patients about their contact lens options

The course consists of four modules, which address these learning outcomes.

Accreditation - Optometry

COPE logoThis course has been accredited by the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) for 3.5 Continuing Education Hours. Upon successful completion of the Introduction to Interprofessional Collaboration module (0.5 CE hours), participants can proceed with one or more of the additional three learning modules (1-3 CE hours).

Accreditation - Pharmacy

CCCEP logoThis course has been accredited by the Canadian Council for Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP) for 3.5 Continuing Education Units. Upon successful completion of the Introduction to Interprofessional Collaboration module (0.5 CEUs), participants can proceed with one or more of the additional three learning modules (1-3 CEUs).
