Hi, I am Shilan. I am a career advisor on the Graduate and Post-Doc team at CCD. I support students in their journey of employment and career development goals through trauma-informed and anti-racist lenses in various modes, such as one-on-one appointments and workshops. I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a bachelor’s degree in social work.
My career has led me to support folks dealing with addiction and mental health struggles, youth at risk of homelessness, newcomer immigrant and refugee families as they settle in their new homes, students as they face racism and discrimination on campus and young people thinking about their future through community service. I've also supported various populations in finding meaningful work as they navigate systemic barriers.
These experiences coupled with my personal intersectional experience give me an insight into a variety of perspectives when thinking about purposeful and meaningful career development tools. Talk to me about 90s hip hop and R&B, black liberation, religion, food and gardening.
