Jason Amri, a fourth-year Computer Science student, was featured in two episodes of the Global Futures podcast.
Hosted by Chancellor Dominic Barton, this podcast series explores the world’s challenges and solutions cutting across our health, economy, technology, society, and environment. Each episode is centred on these five transformative forces. For example, the premiere Health Futures explores the various physical and social determinants affecting our quality of life. Its guests included Nobel laureate Professor Donna Strickland and Professor Anita Layton, Canada’s 150 Research Chair in Mathematical Biology and Medicine.
3cycle’s goal is to close the loop on 3D printing….. To actually achieve this goal, we partner with what we think is the largest unserved market, which is community organizations. Things like high schools, universities, makerspaces, libraries, small businesses, who otherwise don't have access to industrial PLA recycling services
Jason guested in the Economic Futures episode, which explores the intersections of societal and technological changes impacting local and global economies. It featured various University of Waterloo students and alum, such as Dave McKay, the president and CEO of RBC, Brigette Lau, the co-founder of Firework Ventures, and Vivek Goel, the current President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo. Notably, these guests either had new or established careers. They discussed solutions to overcome critical economic challenges, namely shortage of skilled labour and productivity growth, and shared their aspirations for the future workforce. Described as a "changemaker" Jason discussed “the value he's gaining from co-op, and how he leverages his background in tech in a business setting”.

In the Sustainable Futures episode, the guests tackle how sustainability could drive modernization — where industry and environment, ecology and the economy are intrinsically linked rather than conflicting goals. Jason discusses his startup 3cycle, which ‘reuse, reduce, and recycle’ 3D-printed waste into brand-new filament, and how Waterloo’s programs support his entrepreneurial pursuits.

Currently, Jason is completing a work term in Hong Kong. He is a recipient of the annual Schulich Leader Scholarship, which is awarded to 100 high school students pursuing undergraduate studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It recognizes students exhibiting academic excellence and entrepreneurship. Even before attending the University, Jason was an aspiring entrepreneur just his fellow Waterloo network.
