Majors and entry programs

There are two main types of undergraduate programs at Waterloo: entry programs and majors.

Only entry programs are listed on our admission requirements page and budget calculator.

An entry program is how you "enter" university and is what you'll apply to from high school. Sometimes an entry program is the same as your major. A major is the subject which will be the focus of your degree and most of the courses you take will be in your major.

For most of our majors, you need to apply to an entry program and then choose your major either in first or second year. For example, Earth Sciences is a major. You apply to Physical Sciences and then choose Earth Sciences as your major.
