Building futures through collaboration

Waterloo School of Pharmacy partners with the Centre for Effective Practice

The University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy continues to lead the future of healthcare. On Aug 15, 2023 the School signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Centre for Effective Practice, leaders in healthcare behaviour change.

Waterloo Pharmacy and CEP share a desire to collaborate and explore future opportunities in the form of events, research projects and initiatives including integrating CEP's resources into the School’s curriculum from clinical topics to pharmacotherapy.

We have successfully collaborated with CEP previously. This MOU strengthens our collective vision of supporting evidence-based patient care through education.

This exciting new partnership will also shed light on a potential career opportunity for current PharmD students. It will give students an introduction to a unique career path that will help foster stronger expertise among emerging pharmacists needed for our growing and changing health-care system.

Pharmacists that take this career path help primary care clinicians improve health outcomes for their patients, by distilling evidence and providing them with the information and resources they need to implement best practices.

Pharmacists are central to patient-centred care. This collaboration will help enrich the education of our next generation of pharmacists through access to the CEP’s resources and expertise, while offering exposure to a range of work and training experience.

Centre for Effective Practice

CEP is an independent not-for-profit organization that aims to close the gap between evidence and practice. CEP provides knowledge translation initiatives including an academic detailing service for family physicians and nurse practitioners. Through this service, a team of pharmacists provides efficient, tailored one on one discussions on the latest evidence, practical tips and resources for a variety of clinical topics. It is the only provincial program of its kind in Ontario.
