Biography

Eugene Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Waterloo and his doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Kim’s research focuses on assessing structures under extreme loads and designing high-performance structural retrofits using innovative materials. He is especially interested in studying the response of structures under earthquake initiated multi-hazard scenarios, particularly earthquake-tsunami events, and using smart materials such as shape memory alloys (SMA’s) for repairing and strengthening damaged structures.
