Do changes in cigarette smokers’ frequency of cannabis use influence their chances of successful smoking cessation? Findings from the 2016 & 2018 ITC Four Country Smoking and Vaping Survey, at Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (New Orleans, LA, USA), Thursday, March 12, 2020:

Significance: Cigarette smokers are more likely to use cannabis than non-smokers. Couse may impede successful smoking cessation. This study examined whether changes in cannabis use frequency influenced tobacco smoking cessation outcomes.

Methods: A prospective cohort of representative samples of adult smokers (n=4,480) from Canada, the United States, England, and Australia were surveyed in 2016 and 2018. In each year, smokers were asked how often they typically used cannabis in the previous 12 months. Self-reported use in each year was...

Affordability of factory-made & roll-your-own cigarettes across six European countries from 2016 to 2018: Findings from the EUREST-PLUS ITC 6 European Country Survey, at Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (Oslo, Norway), Friday, September 13, 2019:

Objectives: Cigarette affordability considers the price smokers pay for cigarettes in relation to their incomes. Due to differential taxes levied on FM cigarettes and loose tobacco in the EU, RYO smokers may have greater ability to pay for cigarettes. This study estimated the affordability of FM and RYO cigarettes in 6 EU countries.

Methods: Data from Wave 1 (2016) and Wave 2 (2018) of the EUREST-PLUS ITC 6 European Country Survey were used to estimate affordability among current smokers from Germany (n=1155), Greece...

Cross-border Purchasing of Cigarettes among Smokers in Six European Countries: Findings from the EUREST-PLUS ITC Europe Surveys, at 4th European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (Bucharest, Romania), Wednesday, March 27, 2019:
Introduction:
The availability of lower-cost cigarettes provides price-sensitive smokers with incentives to purchase cheaper cigarettes in order to minimize their financial costs of continuing to smoke. This study estimates the prevalence of and factors associated with cross-border purchasing of cheaper cigarettes among nationally representative samples of smokers from Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Spain (n = 6,011).

Material and Methods:
The primary outcome was purchasing cheaper out-of-country cigarettes in the last six months. The prevalence of... Read more about Cross-border Purchasing of Cigarettes among Smokers in Six European Countries: Findings from the EUREST-PLUS ITC Europe Surveys
State-level cigarette affordability among current US smokers: Findings from the ITC US survey, 2003–2015, at Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (Baltimore, Maryland), Friday, February 23, 2018:

Significance: Cigarette taxes reduce demand for cigarettes. Inflation undermines the effects of taxes when tax increases do not keep pace with rising incomes. Cigarette tax policy must consider price in relation to smokers' incomes. This study uses small area estimation methods to estimate state-level cigarette affordability from 2003-2015.

Methods: Data came from Waves 2-9 of the International Tobacco Control (ITC) US Survey, a nationally representative cohort survey of smokers aged 18+. Cigarette...

Proximity to First Nations Reserves and Likelihood of Illicit Cigarette Purchasing in Ontario and Quebec: Findings from the ITC Canada Survey 2002-2014, at Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (Baltimore, Maryland), Friday, February 23, 2018:

Significance: Contraband tobacco products provide price-sensitive smokers with incentives to avoid higher-taxed cigarettes. Some Canadian smokers avoid taxes by purchasing cigarettes from First Nations Reserves (FNR). This study estimated the effect of proximity to FNR on the odds of last purchasing cigarettes from FNR in Ontario (ON) & Quebec (QC), where contraband tobacco is more prevalent.

Methods: The analysis was based on current smokers aged 18+ from ON (n=2126) & QC (n=1441) who...
