Dr. Zhongchao Tan is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering and Director of the Research Lab for Green Energy & Pollution Control at the University of Waterloo. He is also Executive Director of the Tsinghua University - University of Waterloo Joint Research Centre for Micro/Nano Energy & Environment Technologies.

He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Thermal Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in the 1990s, and PhD degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA, in 2004. Dr. Tan then started his career as a faculty member at the University of Calgary, Canada from 2004-2010 and moved to the University of Waterloo in September 2010.

His teaching and research are focused on filtration and separation technologies for green energy and clean environment.
