Yi Luo

Prof. Yi LUO received his B. E. Degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1983, M. E. degree and Ph. D. degree in electronic engineering both from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1987 and 1990, respectively. He was the one of pioneers of gain-coupled DFB semiconductor lasers, and nonimage optics based solid state lighting technologies.

From April 1990 to March 1992, he was with the Optical Measurement Technology Development Company, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan. In 1992, he returned to Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Since the end of 1992, he has been a full professor of Department of Electronic Engineering.

His research interests are focused in the following fields: semiconductor optical devices such as laser diodes, LEDs, modulators, photodetectors, phtonic integrated devices, and application technologies such as solid state lighting, microwave photonics, and optical fiber communications.

He has published more than 350 technical articles including more than 170 peer reviewed international journal papers and more than 100 Chinese Journal papers, and more than 130 international conference papers. He is also the holder of 50 Chinese, Japanese, and US Patents.
