I have just signed up for Twitter. Truthfully, I resisted as long as possible, having previously enjoyed making disparaging Twitter comments, such as not wanting to know what Tom Cruise had for breakfast. Really, what could be said in 140 characters? But I was told that as the chair of ChemEd 2013, I would be expected to tweet. So I signed up to get a taste of what Twitter is all about.
I am hooked. Once I found a couple of Twitter accounts I enjoyed following, I come to rely on Twitter for quick updates to see the latest in science and world news. The tweets usually contain links to online stories and if it interests me, I am a click away from the details. I have not explored all the Twitter accounts relating to chemistry and education but here are a few of my current favorites. In the fall we will be setting up @ChemEd2013 and @Chem13News Twitter accounts but until then, check out these accounts. If you follow a Twitter account that Chem 13 News readers might benefit from, let us know and we will share it. Email Jean Hein (jhein@uwaterloo.ca) with your favorites or comments on Twitter. First we will publish them, and then maybe even tweet them when the time comes.
