Can you name all the equipment used to make this Chemis-tree?
There should be no misconception about iodine being similar to carbon dioxide as only undergoing sublimation and not existing as a liquid at atmospheric pressure. As a student* and then as a teacher,** I used the lab called “Sublimation of Iodine”.
In the October 2015 issue of Chem 13 News a quote was misattributed to Ken Lyle (page 13). Jason Ezell, Campbell University, Buies Creek, North Carolina gave the “Einstein, Darwin and other great scientific inventors” speech.
Has teaching chemistry changed in the last 35 years? This December 1980 article in Chem 13 News describes how a teacher begins his school year. We would be interested to hear readers’ reactions to this 35-year old approach to a chemistry class. It certainly sounds like guided inquiry was at work.
