The 2026 conference theme reflects the realities facing governing boards today—navigating complexity, embracing innovation, and exercising leadership that makes a lasting impact on institutions and communities. Sessions will explore governance challenges and opportunities shaping the future of Canadian universities.
Program & Events
In addition to a dynamic conference program, participants will enjoy opportunities to connect and engage outside the meeting room, including:
- a Welcome Reception on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano Centre on the U Waterloo campus.
- a Gala Dinner on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum.
About CUGA
The Canadian University Governance Association (CUGA) exists to improve the governance of Canadian universities. It mobilizes the leadership of governing boards to support effective governance practices, strengthen fiduciary oversight, and enhance accountability for the overall direction of universities across the country.
Location
The conference will take place at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Waterloo and the University of Waterloo, located in the heart of Ontario’s innovation corridor.
